A new scheme with the aim of increasing energy efficiency in sport organisations has been launched.
The scheme entitled ‘Leading sport organisations to higher energy efficiency’ is being led by the Energy and Water Agency together with SportMalta.
This scheme provides assistance to sports organisations in the form of financial grants, of up to €50,000 per organisation to implement changes or introduce new energy saving appliances, intelligent lighting, and other actions that would result in at least 20% energy savings.
The maximum eligible cost cannot be more than €50,000, while the minimum eligible cost shall be €250. If the investment sums up to €20,000 the grant shall cover 100% of the costs; while in the case where the investment is greater than €20,000 the grant covers 90%.
Applicants who intend to propose a project with an eligible cost of less than €5,000 may make use of the services offered by an engineer to prepare the technical part of the application and assist the sport organisation in the application process. This service is offered free of charge to the organisations that do not exceed this threshold.
During a press conference launching this scheme, at the National Shooting Range in Ta’ Kandja, Minister for Energy and Water Management, Joe Mizzi highlighted the fact that this scheme will have a double effect, as it will firstly reduce the organisation’s energy consumption and improve their energy performance, whilst also improving operations carried out by the organisation.
Parliamentary Secretary for Youths, Sports and Voluntary Organisations, Clifton Grima said that this scheme is essential for sports organisations to be more sustainable and they too will be doing their part in consuming energy in a sustainable way.
More information and all relevant application forms are available here.
Applications under this scheme will be received until the 6th June, 2019.
