The Energy and Water Agency (EWA) has presented the draft National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) at a public consultation session organised in collaboration with MEUSAC earlier today in Valletta.

Bringing together various stakeholders from across multiple sectors, including academia, private enterprises, industry representatives, NGOs, as well as Ministries and government entities, the public consultation gave the opportunity for those present to have their say in the matter.

The NECP will serve as a strategic planning, framework and policy document that will guide Malta’s contribution to achieving the Union’s 2030 objectives and targets, primarily in the areas of Greenhouse Gas emissions reductions, renewable energy, energy efficiency and electricity interconnectivity.

EWA gave an extensive overview on the proposed plan to those present, explaining how Malta plans to reach national objectives and contributions for 2030 in the respective dimensions covered by the plan, highlighting the foreseen policies and measures that the Government plans to implement in order to reach the national objectives and contributions. These policies and measures are supplemented by an analytical basis consisting of a description of the current situation in Malta as well as projections until 2040.

Following the introductory presentation, attendees were able to make recommendations as well as have their questions and queries answered by the respective responsible Government authorities.

The general public is invited to submit their written comments regarding the draft NECP until the 10th of April, 2019 here.
