The Energy and Water Agency (EWA) is excited to announce the 6th edition of the Għajn Open Weekend at the Għajn National Water Conservation Awareness Centre! This year’s event will take place on Saturday, 13th September, from 16:00 to 22:00, and on Sunday, 14th September, from 10:00 to 17:00.

This free event is open to all and is ideal for families looking to enjoy a fun day out. On-site parking will also be available for visitors’ convenience.

What’s happening this year?

The Għajn Open Weekend 2025 will consist of two exciting days packed with free, family-friendly activities. Children can unleash their creativity in craft and painting workshops and enjoy a variety of interactive games and experiences.

The event will also feature live theatrical performances and appearances by the beloved Għajn mascots, Drago and Zoe.  In line with this year’s theme, The Fairly Hydrated Knight, we are honoured to present a historical show of arms and a reenactment show on Saturday for families to enjoy. These activities aim to help children build confidence, explore new ideas, and have fun together, all while learning about water conservation and practical, easy-to-follow water-saving tips.

Each year, the Għajn Open Weekend attracts over 600 visitors, all eager to explore the Centre and take part in its hands-on activities focused on energy and water sustainability, making it a growing event for families and the community. This year is expected to be no different, with a full programme of engaging activities, making it a fantastic outing for the whole family.

A Centre with Deep Roots

Ever wondered where the word ‘Għajn’ comes from? In Maltese, ‘Għajn’ refers to a natural spring or water source. The name perfectly reflects the Centre’s mission to promote water sustainability and conservation. Located in Rabat, a town historically known for its freshwater springs, the Għajn Centre stands on a site that once served as a vital water source and meeting place for the local community.

What’s the History of the Għajn Centre?

The Għajn Centre opened in April 2017 to promote water conservation and responsible management. For over eight years, it has offered interactive educational programmes for primary and secondary students, including workshops, guided tours, and hands-on activities, helping young people understand the value of water and sustainability.
