As part of the Malta Engineering Excellence Award 2024 (MEEA), a total of forty trees were planted in Ġnien l-Għarusa tal-Mosta, an initiative joint with the Energy and Water Sustainability Award. The tree planting event was a collaboration between the Energy and Water Agency and Project Green. This award aims to recognise private enterprises that implement projects significantly impacting their energy and/or water usage. The tree-planting initiative was attended by representatives from the Energy and Water Agency, the award winners, the first runner-up, and the joint second runners-up. Also present were members of the Chamber of Engineers and the Minister for the Environment, Energy, and Public Cleanliness, Hon. Dr. Miriam Dalli.

The Energy & Water Sustainability Award serves multiple objectives, including recognizing private enterprises that implement impactful energy and water efficiency projects, providing enterprises with the opportunity to showcase their achievements, highlighting best practices to benefit local enterprises, creating a networking platform for businesses to share experiences and challenges in an informal setting, and promoting sustainability by awarding the winning enterprise with a €4,000 voucher for capacity-building initiatives in sustainability for employees.

Hon. Dr. Miriam Dalli emphasized the importance of sustainability in Malta’s industrial landscape, encouraging more enterprises to adopt energy and water efficiency measures to ensure a greener future.

Charles Buttigieg, Chief Policy Officer for the Energy and Water Agency, expressed his satisfaction with the increasing interest in the Energy and Water Sustainability Award, stating: “Year after year, it is truly rewarding to see a growing interest from companies in participating in the Energy and Water Sustainability Award.
