The Energy and Water Agency has launched a new scheme through which, SMEs such as restaurants, hotels and factories can benefit from up to €5,000 in refunds when they undergo an energy audit for their company.

This audit is a detailed analysis of the industry’s energy consumption together with a list of recommendations that can improve the energy efficiency.

Companies whose consumption exceeds 75,000kWh can apply for this scheme through the online form found here.

A press conference was held to launch this scheme, where Minister for Energy and Water Management Joe Mizzi explained how the recommendations given in such audits can help industries save energy, which in some cases, add up to thousands of Euro. Some of these recommendations, in fact, do not require that the company invests further, but only requires more attention or some simple alterations to the existing system.

During the press conference, Mr. Joe Tanti, CEO of the Malta Business Bureau (MBB) who was involved in the consultation process insisted that thanks to such schemes, the MBB is further encouraged to continue in its endeavours.

This energy audit scheme for Small and Medium Enterprises is open until end of next year or until the funds have been exhausted.
