The Energy and Water Agency (EWA) hosted the URWAN 3rd Living Lab, bringing together project partners, associated partners and stakeholders from across the Mediterranean to collaborate on advancing nature-based solutions for more climate-resilient urban areas.
URWAN is a Mediterranean cooperation project that supports cities in improving urban water management and resilience through the implementation and transfer of nature-based solutions. By connecting cities, institutions and experts, the project promotes practical tools, shared knowledge and tested solutions that help urban areas better respond to climate and environmental challenges.
During the first two days of the Living Lab, participants took part in workshops and collaborative sessions to test and further develop URWAN tools, including the Enabler Pack and checklist. The programme also included engagement with local stakeholders and a visit to the Għajn Water Conservation Centre, showcasing nature-based solutions already being implemented in Malta while allowing partner cities to exchange experiences and approaches.
Initiatives were also highlighted, including the LocAll4Floods Project and the regeneration of the Chadwick Lakes Trail, both demonstrating how nature-based approaches can contribute to improved water management, flood resilience and environmental restoration in Malta.
The event marked another important step at improving collaboration and supporting the transfer and mainstreaming of URWAN solutions across Mediterranean cities.
