Energy Efficiency Partner Initiative – De La Rue

As a leading company in their field, De La Rue have been committed to innovation and sustainability for years. For this reason, the company has partnered with the Energy and Water Agency through the Energy Efficiency Partner Initiative within its facilities in Malta.

De La Rue has embarked on a number of initiatives to increase its overall energy efficiency in its plant. Among other initiatives, the company has carried out an extensive exercise whereby existing lighting was replaced with more energy efficient lighting solutions. Through this exercise, De La Rue has reduced its annual energy consumption by 630MWh. This is equal to the consumption of around 140 households. The company has also introduced cool roofs which has resulted in lower indoor temperature by as much as 2°C and this reduced the cooling demand for the building. The chilling system has also been upgraded to be more energy efficient.

De La Rue is one of the world’s largest commercial security printers and operates in three portfolio areas: currency, identity and brand protection. De La Rue has successfully printed currency in Malta for over 40 years. The company aims to further its improvements in energy efficiency with the aim of enhancing competitiveness and ensuring the least impact on the environment.
